Required Reading

I'd love to hear your ideas for some summer beach reads.
I like fun, quick, "girlie" books.
Like the Shopaholic series and Bridget Jones.
Any ideas?
I'm thinking that these look good...

I've just finished Divas Don't Knit (and the 2nd book in the series) by Gil McNeil... they actually made me LOL which led to some funny looks on my commute to work!

I LOVE a good story! Look at the Ladies Agency by Hester Browne. There are three. So if you get them make sure to read them in order. She has a new book out too. It's on my wish list to pick up. A light fun read! Other books I enjoyed are: The Beach House by Jane Green. I think it was her best. Also a new fav author is Jane Porter. Loved (!) Odd Mom Out, Flirting with Forty, and Mrs. Perfect. I think the same characters are in OMO and MP. I would also mentioned Marian Keyes however she always touches on a serious subject. So it might not be what you are looking for. Any way...Enjoy!

I agree - "The Secret Life of Bees" was a really good read. My favourite book over the last year was "Water for Elephants"......but it wan't necessarily a "girly" or "light" read!....also, anything by John Irving is a sure bet! *smiles* ~Jen

Heather,
Check my profile on my blog,,I read more than well, most people should!! About 15-20 books a month on my Kindle,,,,,Don't even get me started on that, because I think it's the BEST invention since,,,,hmmm the washing machine? Anyway, under my profile I have a section there about the books I've read as of late, so maybe you'll see something there of interest!
Happy Reading!!

When my friends tried to get me to read Twilight, I was completely against reading anything having to do with vampires. I thought it was super lame. When my 10 year old neice started reading them, I thought I should check it out to make sure it was appropriate for her - 4 days later I had finished all 4 books. They really are quite addictive.

I'll agree on The Secret Life of Bees - excellent book! A few others: Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (this is a series, too), A Girl Named Zippy, and The Nanny Diaries. I'm also obsessed with Jane Austen - she has some shorter stories in addition to the 6 major novels.

That is so funny. When I clicked on these . . . those were exactly the books I was going to recommend. I read them all in about a week in Hawaii and LOVED them. Great girlie books. I blog about my favorite books all the time. We seem to like the same genre. Happy reading to you!

I just read all the Jen Lancaster books and thought she is hilarious. A little sarcastic, a little mean but so goofy funny! I like Anita Shreve also. Oh and Jodi Piccoult, hers are always good:)

Sharon Fiffer has written a series of mysteries in which the heroine is an inveterate estate saler. They are very funny and very familiar to those of us who regularly go to yard and estate sales! Even if you don't read mysteries, you might really like these.
Enjoy your reading,
~Marilee

Robin Jones Gunn's Sisterchick series is a good, fun read. Also dearly loved Sharon Hinck's The Secret Life of Becky Miller and it's sequel, Renovating Becky Miller.

Yes, The books by Emily Giffin are wonderful. Also Loved Walked In & Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos are great. Right now I am reading The Sugar Queen by Sarah Allen - really enjoying it so far.
